“The best way of learning about anything is by doing” - Richard Branson

Hi, I’m Mandula. When I’m not watching sports (cricket, rugby, F1), cooking up something delicious, or going to the gym or on a walk outside, you’ll probably find me working on data projects. I’ve been in the data field for over three years now. In the first year and a half, I helped private equity firms make strategic decisions on investments using data-driven insights. Now, I’m focused on improving a public sector organization’s evaluation methods and organizational effectiveness through data.

At the start of 2024, I set a new challenge for myself: I wanted to dive into more end-to-end work. There’s something uniquely satisfying about taking a project from the very beginning all the way to a finished product. Whether it's growing your own vegetables and turning them into a tasty curry, or sourcing data and creating an ML model that’s ready for real-world use, it’s an experience that brings a lot of joy to me.

Coming from a Math background, I’ve always admired engineers who could point to something tangible and say, “I built that!”—while I was stuck showcasing beautiful Jupyter notebooks. So, I took the plunge and taught myself how to design a website, add dynamic features with Java, use CSS to make it look good, and even host an ML model on an Amazon EC2 server for others to use. It’s easy for early-career data scientists to focus solely on improving the performance of their ML models (which is important!), but I wanted to take it a step further—to build tools that people can actually use.

Feel free to check out my Medium page to follow my end-to-end projects or try one yourself. And if you have an idea for an ML tool, let’s connect on LinkedIn—I’d love to collaborate!
